Julie Steele, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah College of Nursing (Clinical) and holds an adjunct faculty position within the Department of Pediatrics. She is a Duke Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Fellow alumni (2015) and received the Utah Substance Abuse Advisory Council 2014 Governor's Award for her work on behalf of Drug Endangered Children. In addition, she participated in the Utah Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (UTAAP) Care for Children and Youth in Foster Care Chapter Grant Project (2013): Trauma informed care for youth in Utah Foster Care. Under this grant she continued her interest in advocacy for children in foster care while serving as the principle investigator for a pilot project to evaluate the feasibility of screening for toxic stress in a primary health care setting.
Dr. Steele is a family nurse practitioner that is passionate about promoting the health and safety of vulnerable children with special health care needs. Through her clinical practice and management of the South Main Foster Care Clinic, Julie Steele has been a leader in providing health care for children in foster care, many of whom have neurodevelopmental conditions. Areas of interest include multi-disciplinary collaboration to guide policy and care coordination to improve outcomes for children. Dr. Steele has served on the Division of Child and Family Services State Quality Improvement Committee and the Utah Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. She has been involved in research related to the health care issues of children in foster care, drug endangered children, and serves as clinical faculty providing inter-professional education for the University of Utah College of Nursing and Department of Pediatrics. She has worked in diverse practice settings including public community health centers and private practice.
Julie Steele received her undergraduate degree in Nursing from the University of Utah (1980); Masters of Science degree from the University of Washington (1987), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Utah (2012).
