Jessica Brooke, Health Administration
I am originally from Gilbert, AZ but have lived here in Utah for 5 years now. I received my Bachelors Degree in Mathematics (Pure) with a Chemistry minor from Weber State University. I have been at the University of Utah for the past 2 years working on a double Masters Degree in Public Health and Healthcare Administration, and I graduate in one year. Looking forward, I am hoping to apply to medical school and become a physician. Ultimately, I would love to incorporate my mathematical background with medical work as a physician, perhaps in research. I have lived in Peru for a summer as an intern for a nonprofit humanitarian group and I loved every minute of the service I did there. I appreciated the opportunity to experience a different culture while also working to help improve the lives of the members living in the particular community we were in. In addition, I spent a month last summer in Ghana working on a research project studying the availability of health services and medications in rural parts of Ghana. Due to both experiences, I would love future opportunities to lead expeditions abroad. I currently work as a math and science tutor, research assistant at the U of U, and lead volunteer at Lakeview Hospital. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano and cello and spending time with family and friends. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be a URLEND trainee the upcoming year and am determined to make the most out of the experience.
